Jean-Paul Agosti
Stained glass for Saint Joseph’s Chapel in Reims
The artist Jean-Paul Agosti was chosen to design the 300 square metres of stained glass installed in Saint-Joseph’s Chapel in Reims in 2014. One of the city’s finest religious buildings, the chapel’s stained glass windows were destroyed during the First World War.
The main theme chosen by the artist is the Tree of Life represented in the form of a spiral. The colours used echo those of the existing stained glass in the upper section of the window, giving an overall impression of chromatic unity.
This major project, which took seven years to complete, was carried out in partnership with Reims City Council, the Conseil Départemental of the Marne and the Fondation du Patrimoine. A large fundraising campaign attracted private and corporate sponsors, patrons of the arts and families, as well as leading personalities from the Champagne region.
